Desalination

If the water source is seawater, desalination will be the method of choice. This process consists of removing the mineral salts dissolved in the water.

Although there are other methods, reverse osmosis is the most widely used and least energy-intensive process, based on semi-permeable membranes that allow water to pass through but retain the salt.

As these membranes can be contaminated by bacteria and blocked by solids, they need to be pre-treated using advanced filtration processes (microfiltration or ultrafiltration), pre-oxidation and pH adjustment.

Applications:

  • Water holes/wells
  • Small villages
  • Hospitality
  • Agriculture
  • General industry
  • Process water
